Tornados 5, Avalanche 1

Although not a PTO event, how can we not mention last Friday's Texas Tornado hockey game, possibly the most anticipated event of the year? Student went crazy over a chance to watch a fast-paced sport where fighting is allowed, ride on a school bus with all their friends plus a snack to top it off. When they returned to school after the game, they were happy and exhausted. Kudos to the staff, teachers and chaperones who coordinated an army of students from school to the stadium and back safely!

Chili Today, Hot Tamale...

There's nothing better than a hot bowl of chili when it's cold outside!
Try Mrs. Freshcoln's Class' award winning chili recipe from the 2006-2007 Chili Cook-Off.

Queen Bee Chili
2 lbs burger meat browned
1 onion
1-2 cloves of garlic
1 each: red, green and yellow bell pepper
2 cans beans
1 can tomato sauce
1 large can diced tomatoes
1 can mushrooms
2 tbsp chili powder
salt, pepper and sugar to taste

Cook meat, drain. Add ingredients to a crock pot, simmer 4-6 hours.

This month has been more like chili morning, hot afternoon, making it perfect weather for students to lose their coats. If your student is missing a coat or jacket, check out the overflowing Lost & Found box in the cafeteria.

Back to School & Brookshires

Back to school in a brand new year! PTO has some exciting events planned, my favorite is the free, outdoor Eddie Coker concert in April.
Cindy Howard, the hardest working collector of Boxtops and Labels for Education ever, discovered a way for Burks to garner a ginormous amount of points in January.
In Thursday's (1/3/08) mail, I received a flyer from Brookshire's grocery. One the front of the ad it has a bonus certificate for 100 bonus points through Campbell's. This could be pretty big for Burks.

Clip the certificate, attach 5 UPC's & the cash register receipt dated between 1/2/08 - 1/29/08 (any grocery store) & put into your child's classroom collection or put in the PTO box. You can shop for 5 soup cans & enclose the cash register receipt as the certificate indicates.

If you would just like to send the certificates to school, that would be great too. I can add these certificates into our next mailing for a HUGE return on our point collections! Copies are not allowed, so as many people saving these as possible could be HUGE in our collections for the month!
Keep an eye out for that mailer certificate!
